MORE ABOUT DANCE-ED AND THE COURSE:

Dance-ed Logo-DD-400w

Please note:

1. The courses are exclusively aimed at dancers who either dance professionally AND/OR teach dance professionally, and who have a well-established understanding of Modern Dance and/or Jazz Dance and/or Contemporary Dance.

2. In order to do the courses, it is not expected of you to be able to physically master the dance steps yourself. It would be fantastic should you be able to, but it is not a prerequisite.
A thorough understanding of the work, the techniques involved, the styles that are incorporated and the manner in which to teach the syllabi are of more importance.

3. You are welcome to bring an assistant along.

More about Dance-Ed:

Dance-Ed International is a dance training system geared towards providing exceptional dance training that is specifically relevant to the demands of the present day dance industry. The training focusses on the spectrum of dance forms that nestle under “Entertainment Dance”. This includes Jazz Dance, Modern Dance, Show Dance and Musical Theatre Dance.

The training system emphasizes the proper development of technical prowess, versatility in mastering various forms of Theatre Dance as well as the enjoyment of dance through performance.

Dance-Ed’s Training System offers you comprehensive training in the technique of Jazz Dance and other forms of Show Dance. Other than its rigorous technical foundation, the Dance-Ed Training System encourages multi-genre versatility and emphasizes the vigor and verve of performance.

The Dance-Ed Training System rests on a number of cornerstones:

• The Dance-Ed system provides a rigorous technical foundation. Borrowing from Ballet technique and Contemporary Dance technique, the syllabi establish and develop a firm and accurate technical basis that serves as the foundation for systematic development.

• As it is a fact that there are as many Jazz Dance styles and Show Dance styles as what there are Jazz Dance and Show Dance choreographers, the Dance-Ed system teaches the essentials of these dance forms that can be applied to any stylistic variation.

• The Dance-Ed system pertinently maintains the dynamic distinctiveness of Entertainment Dance with its characteristic vitality. The syllabi augment performance and encourage the urge to entertain.

• The Dance-Ed system fosters the idea of developing knowledgeable and informed artists. Dancers need to be able to place their skills in a relevant context. They should be able to apply their acquired skills and knowledge to the wider dance fraternity and should be able to talk intelligently about their art form. Dancers need to become aware of dance. They need to investigate, question, explore and create. They need to analyze and interpret, compare and evaluate, contextualize and understand dance. They need to form opinions, cultivate taste and recognize quality. They need to develop an appreciation for dance in the widest possible sense of the word. The training system allows for dancers to develop a broad frame of reference.

• The system nurtures the dancers’ own creativity in that it encourages dancers to create their own work. The Dance-Ed system views young dancers’ early exposure to and experimentation with their own creative talents as vital.

• Teachers are encouraged and given opportunities to apply their own artistic flair by, for instance, creating some of the dancers’ own solos and by stylizing arms for certain exercises. The syllabus strives to not be prescriptive to the point of underestimating the teachers’ own knowledge and talents. The teachers’ own contributions are indispensable.

The overriding endeavor of the Dance-Ed Training System is to remain industry relevant and to, to put it in a nut shell, train dancers to be equipped to make careers for themselves.
